SAN
ANTONIO
_________livestock show information
The stock show is the other half of what everyone in South Texas
gets excited about this time of year. It always raises quite
a bit of money, provides a good atmosphere for people to auction
off their animals and it will be more of the same this year.
Young and old exhibitors will be coming from all over the great
state and some, even, from outside Texas to show off their
livestock. Some of them will be coming to make a profit, while
the others will be coming to take home one of the scholarships
that are handed out as prizes. The S.A.L.E. has been passing out scholarships
to students with exemplary animals since 1984 and this year they will be worth
$6,000 a piece.
The animals that students bring to be judged and then later judged are a wide
variety. They are cows, poultry, horses, pig, goats and sheep. There are also
a number of categories of each animal that are judged. Last year, the Agriculture Mechanics Project Show scholarships increased from $84,000 to $180,000 and the total Junior Livestock Auction Sales totaled a whopping $3,225,000.
For the 4th consecutive year, the PRCA has voted the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo the Large Indoor Rodeo of the Year and was also inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame. The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo also continued its pioneering ways by giving each Rodeo Event Champion $8,000 worth of fuel cards.
This year the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo will host the 2010 Horse Show In at a brand new multi-purpose climate controlled facility. The Horse Show will feature a variety of events to include: Barrel Racing, Team Penning, a Donkey and Mule Show, a Llama show, and of course the Quarter Horse, Paint Horse and Appaloosa Horse breed shows.
